Rationing water helps approximately 34,000 households in Bacolod City
Water rationing was implemented for the month of April for 33,966 households in this city that were experiencing a shortage of water due to El Niño-caused drought. Water supplies were given to homes in 18 of the 61 villages in this area, according to a summary report made public by the city government on Saturday.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office's report stated that 1,550 households on average received up to 36,642 liters of water per day.
Of all the water distributed last month, Barangay Handumanan received the most, accounting for 27.7 percent. Mansilingan came in second with 14.3 percent, followed by Villamonte with 12.9 percent.
A copy of the city's water availability map was made public on Friday by bacolod city water district (Baciwa), a joint venture partner of private water distributor PrimeWater. Per the map, Barangays are the twelve areas that have access to water for zero to four hours per day.
To improve the 12 villages' water supply, PrimeWater and Baciwa have installed 24 2,000-liter water tanks each.
The Amado B. Parreño Agricultural Corp. provided free access to the water supply at Bocal-Bocal Springs in Barangay Alangilan, while Manila Water, the Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Philippine Red Cross Bacolod-Negros Occidental Chapter have all supported the city government's water distribution program.
