Parents and teenagers are already becoming alarmed by Snapchat's new AI chatbot

Lyndsi Lee, a mother from East Prairie, Missouri, advised her 13-year-old daughter not to use Snapchat's My AI chatbot just hours after the app's general release last week.

Lee, who works for a software company, stated, "It's a temporary solution until I know more about it and can set some healthy boundaries and guidelines." She is concerned about the way My AI appears to young Snapchat users, such as her daughter.

The feature is driven by ChatGPT, a popular AI chatbot platform that can speak with users, provide recommendations, and respond to queries. However, there are some significant distinctions with Snapchat's version: Users can give the chatbot a unique name, create a Bitmoji avatar for it, and bring it into discussions with friends.

As a result, talking to Snapchat's chatbot might not feel as transactional as going to ChatGPT's website. Additionally, it might not be as obvious that you are speaking to a computer.
