NBA History Made: Celtics Break Single-Season 3-Point Record in Win Over Suns
Celtics Set NBA Season Record for 3-Pointers in Dominant Win Against Suns
The Boston Celtics etched their name in NBA history on Friday night by setting a new league record for most three-pointers made in a single season. Behind Jaylen Brown’s 31-point performance, Boston cruised to a 123-103 victory over the Phoenix Suns at TD Garden.
The record-breaking moment came early in the second quarter when Payton Pritchard knocked down Boston’s eighth three-pointer of the game, a deep 26-footer with 8:19 left on the clock. That shot gave the Celtics a 44-26 lead and officially broke the previous record of 1,363 three-pointers set by the 2022-23 Golden State Warriors.
By the end of the game, Boston had drained 14 threes on 39 attempts, pushing their season total to an unprecedented 1,370.
Jayson Tatum contributed an all-around effort with 23 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. Derrick White nearly had a triple-double with 12 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Boston dominated the game from start to finish, leading 31-22 after the first quarter, 60-47 at halftime, and 90-75 heading into the final frame. Phoenix never got closer than 13 points in the fourth quarter.
The win helped the Celtics (57-20) avoid back-to-back home losses for the first time this season. They had just come off a tough 124-103 defeat to the Miami Heat on Wednesday but bounced back strong. Boston now boasts an impressive 18-2 record in games following a loss.
For the Suns (35-42), Devin Booker led all scorers with 37 points, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. Royce O’Neale, Oso Ighodaro, and Tyus Jones each added 12 points. Star guard Bradley Beal returned from an eight-game absence due to a hamstring injury but struggled, scoring only one point in 30 minutes and missing all seven of his field-goal attempts.
Phoenix, now on a five-game losing streak, sits in 11th place in the Western Conference and faces an uphill battle to make the play-in tournament. They trail the 10th-seeded Sacramento Kings by two games and must climb into the top ten to stay in playoff contention.
This game marked the second and final matchup between the two teams this season, with Boston sweeping the series after a 132-102 win in their previous meeting.
With the win, the Celtics improved their home record to 25-13 and continue to prove why they’re among the league’s top contenders as the playoffs approach.
