In a heartening move towards sustainability and fostering a circular economy in fashion, Uniqlo has unveiled an exciting embroidery service at its Re.Uniqlo Studio in the Manila Flagship Store, located at Glorietta 5, Makati. This new offering comes as the Studio commemorates its first anniversary, celebrating a year of dedicated service to extending the life of LifeWear garments through simple yet impactful repair solutions.
Embracing Individuality with Embroidery Customization
Uniqlo's newly launched embroidery service brings a creative twist to its sustainability efforts. Customers can now personalize their beloved LifeWear pieces with over 80 embroidery designs ranging from whimsical pets to vibrant flowers, tasty food icons, and festive seasonal themes. Beyond aesthetics, this initiative allows practical use of embroidery to cover small to medium holes, breathing new life into garments while reducing waste. This offering reflects Uniqlo's commitment to merging functionality, sustainability, and personal expression.
"This service is about giving our customers the power to add their personal touch to clothing that they cherish. It’s not just embroidery—it’s a way to tell your story while supporting a more sustainable future," said Reichelle Vergara, Uniqlo’s Head of PR and Sustainability.
Fashion Circularity in Action: The Swap Party
In alignment with its mission of sustainability, Uniqlo has partnered with Basically Borrowed, a community passionate about sustainable fashion, to host a one-of-a-kind fashion swap party. At this event, customers can bring old, unused LifeWear items to exchange with others, promoting the idea of a circular economy where clothing finds new homes and avoids landfills. This initiative not only fosters eco-friendly habits but also builds a sense of community among participants who share a common goal of reducing fashion waste.
The Re.Uniqlo Initiative: Built on Three Pillars
Re.Uniqlo’s sustainability efforts are underpinned by three core principles that guide its mission of reducing environmental impact:
-
Reuse: Uniqlo encourages customers to donate LifeWear items that are no longer suitable for their current style or size. Donation boxes are conveniently placed in all stores, and these garments are redistributed to communities in need, particularly during times of crisis or natural disasters.
-
Repair: Beyond simple fixes, the Re.Uniqlo Studio offers services to repair well-loved but worn garments. Customers can replace buttons, patch holes, and now, embrace embroidery customization as a means to upcycle old clothing into fresh, unique pieces.
-
Recycle: For clothing that has truly reached the end of its lifecycle, Uniqlo ensures proper recycling into new materials. The brand has also introduced apparel collections crafted from recycled fabrics, further solidifying its role as a sustainability advocate in the fast-fashion industry.
"This initiative is not just about prolonging the life of clothing—it’s about creating an ecosystem where people rethink how they use, care for, and repurpose what they wear," Vergara added.
