Alex Calleja's 'Tamang Panahon' Set to Debut on Netflix

Alex Calleja’s “Tamang Panahon” to Premiere on Netflix This February

Filipino comedian Alex Calleja is set to make history with his first Netflix comedy special, “Tamang Panahon,” streaming worldwide starting February 7. This marks a major milestone in his nearly 20-year career, helping bring Filipino stand-up comedy to a global audience.

At a recent media conference in Ortigas, Calleja shared how excited he is for this opportunity. He reflected on his early days in stand-up back in 2007, performing at open mic nights with barely any audience. Now, he’s one of the Philippines’ top comedians, performing to packed crowds with his group, The Comedy Crew, and regularly entertaining at corporate events and private gatherings.

Calleja’s comedy focuses on relatable Filipino experiences, covering topics like family, gossip, gender, and social class differences. He avoids divisive or shock humor, aiming to simply make people laugh. For his Netflix special, he used footage from his birthday shows on October 4 and 5, keeping it a secret to capture genuine audience reactions.

The special will be available not just in the Philippines but also across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. To reach a wider audience, it will include English subtitles. Calleja believes that while some Filipino jokes may not translate perfectly, international viewers will still find his humor relatable, especially when it comes to topics like relationships, traffic, and everyday life.

Beyond live shows, Calleja has appeared on TV programs like “Tiktalks” and “Face 2 Face” and hosts the podcast “Punchline with Alex Calleja.” His viral comedy clips have also gained millions of views online.

To celebrate his Netflix debut, Calleja will kick off a world tour starting February 16 with a post-Valentine’s show in Singapore. He’ll then head to the US in April, Canada in May, and plans to perform in the UAE, Australia, and New Zealand later in the year. For tour updates and tickets,
