The Chicago Bulls and point guard Lonzo Ball have agreed to a two-year contract extension, rewarding him for his comeback after missing two seasons due to injuries. Ball, 27, is averaging 7.2 points and 3.5 assists per game this season after undergoing multiple surgeries on his left knee. He returned to play in October following a meniscus and cartilage transplant.
Bulls coach Billy Donovan praised Ball’s determination and credited the medical staff for helping him return to the court. Although Ball missed the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to left knee management, he had previously played in eight straight games but still doesn’t play both games of back-to-back schedules.
The Bulls had trade offers for Ball but chose to keep him, seeing his leadership and basketball IQ as important assets, especially as the team continues to rebuild.
