Goreclose and Dubberstein Lead Team PHL as Flag-Bearers in the Opening Ceremony
Peter Groseclose and Kathleen Dubberstein will represent Team Philippines as flag-bearers at the opening ceremony of the Ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China. The 20-member team is off to a strong start, with notable performances in curling and hopes for medals in various winter sports, including speed skating, figure skating, alpine skiing, and snowboarding.
In Harbin, China, speed skater Peter Groseclose and curling athlete Kathleen Dubberstein will carry the flag for Team Philippines during the opening ceremony of the Ninth Asian Winter Games on Friday. The 20-athlete team is already off to a strong start, with Dubberstein and her partner Marc Pfister winning three consecutive matches in curling against South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, and Qatar. However, they were defeated by China in their fourth match, but still secured a spot in the quarterfinals.
Before carrying the flag, Groseclose will compete in the 500m, 1,000m, and 1,500m events. He’s looking forward to the competition after a solid practice session, despite an injury during the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics.
Team Philippines, supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, is hopeful for medal chances, particularly in curling, where the team is gaining confidence. In addition to Groseclose, Dubberstein, and Pfister, other athletes include figure skaters, alpine skiers, and snowboarders, with the team aiming to compete in a variety of winter sports.
The event has 33 participating Asian countries, and Groseclose and Dubberstein will represent the Philippines in the opening ceremony.
