Patrick Mahomes Reacts to Luka Dončić Trade: "As a Dallas Fan, It Hurts"

Mavericks fans were stunned by the team’s decision to trade Luka Dončić over the weekend—and among them was Patrick Mahomes.  

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback took to social media on Saturday night as news of Dončić’s move to the Los Angeles Lakers spread. Initially expressing his disappointment by saying he felt "sick" over the trade, Mahomes later struck a more hopeful tone, looking forward to what Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis could accomplish together.  

A passionate Mavericks fan, Mahomes shared more thoughts on the trade during Super Bowl LIX’s opening night in New Orleans.  

“As a Dallas fan, it hurts,” Mahomes told reporters Monday night. “But I’m happy for [Dončić]. He’s getting a chance to chase his dream of winning a championship in L.A. He gave so much, not just to the Mavericks, but to the city of Dallas. I’ll always be grateful for those years. That said, I’m excited for the future of the team and the new players coming in.”  

Mahomes has never been shy about his Mavericks fandom, frequently showing support for the team both online and in person. He was even spotted courtside at American Airlines Center during the team’s 2024 playoff run, joining other high-profile celebrities cheering on Dallas.
