Colin Cowherd claims Mavericks GM Nico Harrison was pressured into trading Luka Dončić to the Lakers.
The Mavericks' decision to move on from their franchise superstar has left many puzzled, and Harrison’s explanations haven’t helped. On The Colin Cowherd Podcast, Cowherd revealed that a source close to Harrison said the trade was driven by higher-ups, not the GM himself.
“I called someone who knows Nico Harrison and asked what happened. They told me, ‘This came from above him.’ When you only get one first-round pick in return, that’s ownership saying, ‘Just get it done,’” Cowherd explained.
The trade was a shocker, and Harrison’s response suggests there may have been internal pressure. Now, the Mavericks have a core of Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson—big names, but past their prime.
Meanwhile, Dončić was on track to be a multi-time MVP and could have led Dallas to a championship. Trading him away for a slim shot at a title seems like a risky move that may not pay off.
