DSWD Prepares Over 180,000 Food Packs in Response to Mt. Bulusan's Activity
In anticipation of potential escalations in Mt. Bulusan's volcanic activity, the DSWD has proactively positioned over 180,000 family food packs in the Bicol Region, with an additional 25,000 in Sorsogon province. The agency is closely coordinating with local authorities to ensure timely assistance to affected communities.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced its preparedness to respond to the ongoing restiveness of Mt. Bulusan by prepositioning over 180,000 family food packs (FFPs) at its Field Office 5 in the Bicol Region. Additionally, more than 25,000 boxes of FFPs have been strategically placed in Sorsogon province, ready for distribution to families that may be affected by the volcanic activity.

Alert Level Raised: On April 28, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) elevated Mt. Bulusan's status to Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest. A permanent danger zone has been declared within a four-kilometer radius of the volcano.

Affected Areas: The municipalities of Juban, Irosin, and Casiguran are currently identified as the initial areas affected by Mt. Bulusan's activity.

DSWD's Response: Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, spokesperson for the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG), stated that upon receiving initial reports, DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio directed all disaster teams to be on alert and monitor the situation. Director Laurio is also coordinating with local government units (LGUs) to ensure the provision of assistance to affected constituents.
