HBO Max has unveiled the first teaser trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, the highly anticipated prequel series to Stephen King's It. Set in 1962, the series delves into the sinister origins of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, with Bill Skarsgård reprising his iconic role.
Developed b Andy and Barbara Muschietti, alongside Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, the nine-episode series explores the dark history of Derry, Maine. The narrative centers around the 1960s incident involving the Black Spot, a segregated nightclub for Black patrons that was destroyed in a racially motivated attack—one of the catastrophic events marking Pennywise’s 27-year cycle of terror.
The teaser trailer offers a glimpse into the eerie atmosphere of the series. It opens with a young hitchhiker expressing a desire to avoid Derry, followed by scenes of a Black family facing hostility upon moving into the town. Local children begin investigating strange disappearances, despite police warnings, culminating in a haunting appearance by Pennywise.
The cast includes Jovan Adepo, likely portraying a young Will Hanlon, Taylour Paige as Jessica Hanlon, and other notable actors such as Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
It: Welcome to Derry is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2025 on HBO Max, expanding the chilling universe established by the 2017 and 2019 films.
