Cup of Joe Proves OPM’s Strength with Sold-Out ‘Silakbo’ Concert at Araneta Coliseum
The Filipino music scene continues to thrive, as evidenced by the overwhelming success of OPM band Cup of Joe, which kicked off its highly anticipated concert tour with a two-night sold-out show. The band took the stage at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on February 8 and 9, 2025, captivating fans with a powerful and heartfelt performance.
This event marked the first leg of their ‘Silakbo’ Tour, named after their latest studio album, which was officially released in January 2025. Following the electrifying Manila performances, Cup of Joe is set to bring their music to even more fans across the country. Their next stops will be Davao City on March 22 and Cebu City on March 29, where their loyal fanbase, known as ‘Joewahs,’ eagerly awaits their arrival.
‘Silakbo’: A Deeply Personal Album
Discussing the meaning behind their latest project, band vocalist Rapha shared, “We poured our hearts and souls into ‘Silakbo.’ It’s not just a collection of songs but a reflection of the emotions we’ve experienced, as well as those of our listeners.”
Fellow vocalist Gian echoed this sentiment, expressing how meaningful the tour is to the group. “Having the opportunity to connect with our fans through this album and these concerts feels like a dream come true. Seeing them sing along and resonate with our music is truly rewarding.”
Cup of Joe’s Journey in the OPM Scene
Formed in Baguio City in 2018, Cup of Joe officially made their debut the following year, in 2019. The band quickly gained attention in the OPM scene with their extended play (EP) ‘Patutunguhan’, which featured standout tracks such as ‘Tingin’ (featuring Janine Teñoso), ‘Tataya’, and ‘Kung Hindi Lang Tayo Sumuko’. Their distinct sound, which blends alternative pop with heartfelt lyricism, has helped them establish a strong following.
In 2024, the band continued to make waves with the release of their hit single ‘Misteryoso’. The song’s music video featured Jhoanna Robles, the leader of the fast-rising P-pop group BINI, adding another layer of excitement for fans.
With the success of ‘Silakbo’ and their nationwide tour, Cup of Joe solidifies its place as one of the most promising OPM bands today, proving that local music remains alive and well in the hearts of Filipino listeners.
