Game "Multi Versus" Shuts Down this May 30th
Fans of MultiVersus, the crossover fighting game featuring Warner Bros. characters, are preparing to say goodbye as developers have announced that the game will officially shut down on May 30, 2025. The decision comes nearly a year after the game’s servers were temporarily taken offline in June 2023, leaving players uncertain about its return.

A Promising Start, A Sudden Decline
MultiVersus launched in open beta in 2022 and quickly gained popularity due to its unique roster, which included characters from DC Comics, Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Game of Thrones, and more. The game was seen as a serious competitor to Super Smash Bros., attracting millions of players in its early months. However, after initial success, the player base started to decline due to content delays, balancing issues, and lack of new updates.
Shutting Down for Good
Developer Player First Games and publisher Warner Bros. Games confirmed in a statement that the game’s full shutdown will take place on May 30. In June 2023, MultiVersus was removed from digital stores and online services were deactivated, but the developers initially promised a relaunch in 2024. Now, it appears those plans have been abandoned.
In their official announcement, the developers stated:
"We appreciate the love and support from the MultiVersus community. While we had high hopes for the game’s future, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue service permanently. We thank our players for being part of this journey."
What Happens to Player Purchases?
One of the biggest concerns among players is the fate of their in-game purchases. Since MultiVersus was a free-to-play game with microtransactions for skins, characters, and battle passes, many players invested money into the game. Warner Bros. Games has not yet confirmed if refunds will be available.
Community Reaction
The announcement has sparked disappointment and frustration among fans, with many criticizing Warner Bros. for mismanaging the game’s development and updates. Players who remained hopeful for a relaunch in 2024 are now left with unanswered questions about why the game was ultimately abandoned.
The Future of Warner Bros. Games
With MultiVersus shutting down, Warner Bros. Games is shifting focus to other projects, including a rumored Mortal Kombat spin-off and new DC Comics games. However, the failure of MultiVersus raises concerns about the company’s handling of live-service games in the future.
As the final days of MultiVersus approach, fans are logging in to enjoy the game one last time before the servers go offline on May 30, 2025.
