Masbate Experiences 5.1 Quake, PHIVOLCS Warns of Aftershocks
A 5.1-magnitude aftershock struck Cataingan, Masbate, early Wednesday morning, as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The quake, tectonic in origin, occurred at a depth of two kilometers. It was recorded at 5:50 a.m., with its epicenter located at 11.84°N, 124.08°E, approximately 21 kilometers south-southeast of Cataingan. PHIVOLCS initially reported the aftershock as having a magnitude of 5.2. No damage or additional aftershocks are anticipated.
Separately, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake was detected near Masbate province on Saturday morning, February 15, according to PHIVOLCS. This earthquake occurred at 8:28 a.m., with its epicenter located 29 kilometers southwest of Claveria town in Masbate.
