'Nosferatu' Claws Its Way to New Global Box Office Milestone Despite Digital Release

While 2025's horror releases Wolf Man and Presence have struggled, Nosferatu continues to perform strongly. Despite debuting on PVOD platforms, its box office momentum remains intact. After more than a month in theaters, the film has earned $93 million domestically and $73 million internationally, bringing its global total to a remarkable $166 million. Produced on a $50 million budget, Nosferatu is now the third-highest-grossing horror film of 2024.
The film's success continues the trend of art-house horror outperforming big studio releases. Wolf Man, directed by Leigh Whannell, has barely passed $15 million, while Presence grossed just $3 million in its opening weekend. For director Robert Eggers, Nosferatu is a career-defining success, after years of mixed results with films ranging from modest hits to flops. He now has two projects lined up, including a Labyrinth sequel and a period horror film titled Werwulf.
'Nosferatu' Earns Four Oscar Nominations
With an 85% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Nosferatu has earned critical praise as one of 2024’s best. It recently received four Academy Award nominations in Best Cinematography, Costume Design, Makeup, and Production Design.
