Pagasa: Cool ‘amihan’ season has ended in most parts of the Philippines.
Pagasa has officially declared the end of the northeast monsoon (amihan) in most parts of the Philippines, signaling the start of the dry season. The shift in wind direction from northeasterly to easterly, due to a high-pressure area over the Northwestern Pacific, marks this transition. Warmer temperatures are expected nationwide, though isolated thunderstorms may still occur, and northern Luzon may continue experiencing northeasterly winds. The amihan season began in November 2024.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) officially declared the end of the northeast monsoon (amihan) in most parts of the country, marking the start of the dry season.
In a statement on Wednesday, Pagasa explained that the shift in wind direction from northeasterly to easterly—caused by the establishment of a high-pressure area (HPA) over the Northwestern Pacific—signals the transition to the warm, dry season.
Weather Outlook
-
Warmer temperatures are expected nationwide.
-
Isolated thunderstorms may still occur.
-
Northern Luzon may continue to experience northeasterly winds despite the seasonal shift.
Pagasa Administrator Nathaniel Servando previously mentioned that the northeast monsoon was expected to weaken by the end of March, leading to warmer conditions.
The amihan season originally started in November 2024, when a high-pressure system over Siberia intensified northeasterly winds across the Philippines.
