MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared April 1, 2025, a regular holiday across the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the Feast of Ramadan.
Marcos signed Proclamation 839 following the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF). He emphasized that declaring April 1 a holiday highlights the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr and promotes national unity by allowing Filipinos to celebrate with their Muslim brothers and sisters.
Eid’l Fitr, one of the two most significant Islamic holidays, is observed three days after the end of Ramadan. The other major celebration, Eid al-Adha, commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
Muslim Filipinos make up approximately 6% of the country's population. Eid’l Fitr was officially recognized as a regular holiday through Republic Act 9177, ensuring its annual observance based on the lunar Islamic calendar and the sighting of the crescent moon in the month of Shawwal.
