Philippines Upholds Neutrality on Taiwan Issue Amid Regional Tensions

​The Philippines has consistently maintained a stance of neutrality regarding the Taiwan issue, emphasizing non-interference in the event of a conflict across the Taiwan Strait. This position aligns with the country's adherence to the "One China Policy" and a commitment to regional stability.

• Official Stance: National Security Adviser Eduardo Año reiterated that the Philippines has no intention of involving itself in the Taiwan issue. He emphasized that the country observes the "One China Policy" and adheres to the ASEAN principle of non-interference in regional matters. 

• Military Engagements: Armed Forces Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. stated that the Philippines currently has no military engagements with Taiwan and does not anticipate any in the future. The Philippine military remains prepared for various contingencies but has not detected specific threats targeting Taiwan.

• Public Opinion: A survey revealed that approximately 86% of Filipinos support maintaining neutrality in the event of a cross-strait conflict, preferring that the government focus on domestic issues rather than international disputes. 

• Regional Concerns: The Philippine government acknowledges that any military conflict in the Taiwan Strait would have significant repercussions due to the geographical proximity of Taiwan and the presence of over 150,000 Filipinos residing there.
