Ten Chinese nationals and twenty-six Filipinos were apprehended this week in two separate raid operations, according to the Philippine Amusement and gambling Corporation (PAGCOR), for their suspected involvement in illicit gambling operations and internet frauds.
After police searched a Parañaque City home on Thursday, May 2, they detained the seven men and three women who were Chinese suspects for violating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, the Alien Registration Act, and the Cybercrime Prevention.
They may have been among those who managed to flee from an April raid on a Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO) site in Tarlac, according to the authorities.
The raid last month targeted Zun Yuan Technology Incorporated, a licensed hub for online gaming, which was purportedly involved in bitcoin and romance frauds. The Chinese nationals detained on Thursday, according to the police, were engaged in comparable activities.
Nine Filipina employees were saved, according to the PAGCOR press release, while one Filipino bodyguard was taken into custody for having an unauthorized.45 caliber handgun.
The day prior, investigators carried out another operation in Laguna during which they apprehended defendants running the Facebook page Lucky Dream 4 while they were live-streaming a raffle of used custom motorcycles. As of right now, 111,000 people follow the page.
"Since they can sell up to 50,000 tickets in a single draw, they have amassed over P8 million since they began this illegal online operation," PAGCOR Senior Vice President for Security Cluster Raul Villanueva stated in a news statement.
