Philippine businesses remain strong despite political uncertainty.

MANILA – Philippine businesses are expected to remain resilient despite ongoing political uncertainties, as they have successfully navigated similar challenges in the past.

Speaking at the Shareholders’ Association of the Philippines (SharePHIL) General Membership Meeting in Makati City, Chairperson Ma. Aurora Geotina-Garcia emphasized that the business community has a history of adapting to political shifts.

“This is not the first time we are facing such challenges. Historically, businesses have managed to thrive and respond effectively,” Garcia said, expressing confidence in the sector’s ability to weather the situation.

She highlighted that investors prioritize stability and certainty, noting that these factors are crucial in maintaining business confidence. “The key question now is where this is heading and how it will be resolved. Investors just need assurance that a resolution will come at some point,” she added.

Garcia also pointed out that businesses have already endured the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and emerged strong, reinforcing their ability to handle uncertainties.

Meanwhile, some major companies, such as those led by the Consunji family in mining, energy, and infrastructure, have reported minimal impact from the current political climate. Semirara Mining and Power Corp. President Maria Cristina Gotianun confirmed that their operations remain unaffected and that they expect business to continue as usual.
