Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay, visited Andhra University, meeting students from his home country and inaugurating their student union body. Visakhapatnam: Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay, visited Andhra University on Monday, where he met with students from his home country pursuing their education at the institution.

During his visit, Sesay praised the university for providing high-quality education and emphasized its role in shaping students' futures. "It is great to see students receiving top-notch education at Andhra University. The skills and knowledge they acquire here will contribute to their success in life. I encourage all international students to actively participate in the development of their home countries," he said.

The visit also marked the inauguration of the Sierra Leonean Student Union at the university, further strengthening support for students from the West African nation.

Andhra University Registrar, Professor E. N. Dhanamjaya Rao, highlighted the institution’s diverse international student community, which includes around 1,200 students from 58 countries, with nearly 700 coming from African nations. He underscored the university’s strong ties with Africa and its role in fostering global academic collaboration.

"Andhra University provides a welcoming and supportive environment for students from different backgrounds. Many of our alumni have gone on to hold significant positions, including Union ministers in Ethiopia and other key roles in countries such as Afghanistan, Nepal, and Bhutan. We are continuously working to enhance the international student experience, including initiatives like the American Corner and the upcoming Western Australian Corner," said Professor Rao.

As a gesture of appreciation, Andhra University honored Ambassador Sesay for his visit, recognizing his efforts in promoting educational ties between Sierra Leone and India.
