Apple Introduces iOS 18.3: Key iPhone Update Brings Major Apple Intelligence Enhancements

The most recent version of the iPhone has arrived, just as expected. It contains a significant update for iPhones running Apple Intelligence, which is something that all iPhone owners who have access to these features should consider. It builds upon iOS 18.2.1, a minor update that was made available on Monday, January 6. Additionally, after the publication, both little and big new aspects have surfaced, which are usefull.

These include more Visual Intelligence adaptability, the return of a well-liked feature in the Calculator app, and more.

Which iPhones are compatible with iOS 18.3? (TEXT MUST BE BOLD.) iOS 18 is compatible with all iPhone models starting in 2018. This includes all subsequent iPhone models, including the iPhone SE in both its second and third generations, as well as the 2018 iPhone Xs, Xs Max, and Xr.

How to Obtain It

In the Settings app on iPhone, select General and then Software Update. Next, select Download and Install, then watch as the software does its magic. The 1.14GB update on iPhone 16 Pro Max.

What's New

No significant Apple Intelligence function is being used here, in contrast to iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2. Actually, when you update to the new version, one live feature will be put on hold. This is due to issues with certain notification summaries that Apple Intelligence has produced. These produced problems for news companies and are related to news notifications. Apple has temporarily halted News & Entertainment category summaries in order to address issue.

Additionally, the summaries will now be italicized, and there are warnings that summarizing may cause problems. Six iPhone models—the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max—have Apple Intelligence.

The Difference with Apple Intelligence

Another significant modification to these phones is that Apple Intelligence is now activated by default. Importantly, you must now turn off Apple Intelligence in Settings under Apple Intelligence & Siri if you do not want it. Although the new features are becoming more and more helpful, you might not want to utilize ChatGPT because some of its functions require data. Overall, I believe it's worthwhile to keep the toggle in the on position, but ultimately, it's up to you to decide.

iPhone storage is one item that may be on your mind. If you don't have a lot of free space on your phone, keep in mind that Apple Intelligence depends on storage to function. Tim Hardwick of MacRumors notes that the latest update "enables Apple Intelligence on supported devices by default." According to Tim Hardwick at MacRumors, "there is one reason why you may want to disable Apple's AI features at the earliest opportunity: To reclaim storage," regardless of whether you own an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or all three.

You ask, how much storage? The article continues, "Apple Intelligence now needs 7GB of storage capacity, according Apple's support page. The storage required may increase in the future, for instance, when Siri is updated in iOS 18.4 within a few weeks. This figure is applicable whether you're using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. It is necessary to switch off Apple Intelligence if you have previously disabled it but have followed the welcome displays that urge you to check it out. If you previously selected "Set Up Later," that selection is still honored today. Your storage levels are restored when you disable Apple Intelligence.

Apple iOS 18.3: Few Changes

The iPhone 16 series phones now feature a Camera Control, and the AE/AF lock toggle has been renamed to Lock Focus and Exposure. Since introduction, it has been evident that there will be more minor updates in the upcoming version. Apple will now alert customers that cropped content is not deleted from the PDF if they crop it while editing it, potentially saving them some humiliation. Another Apple Intelligence innovation is that Messages will add a Genmoji entry to the Plus button, making it simpler to make your own customized emoji.

With the expansion of Visual Intelligence (available only on iPhone 16 series models), you can now identify plants and animals in addition to adding an event to the calendar when you aim the camera at a poster or flyer.

All iPhones running iOS 18.3 can get the Unity Rhythm wallpaper that Apple provided in observance of Black History Month. A problem that occurred when the keyboard vanished when initiating a typed Siri request has been resolved.

Additionally, the latest update fixes a problem where audio playback continues to the finish of a song even after you've stopped Apple Music. This is an odd one that could even sound eerie in the wrong situations. "I like this song, you're going to hear it to the end," Apple seemed to be saying.

Lastly, if you're using Apple Intelligence, you can now disable notification summaries straight from the lock screen.
