At the 2025 Grammys, Beyoncé claimed the top honor, winning Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, marking her first win in this category after being nominated four times before. Known for holding the record for the most nominations and wins in Grammy history, she dedicated the award to Linda Martell, the first Black woman to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. During the ceremony, host Trevor Noah acknowledged the long-awaited achievement for Beyoncé. Kendrick Lamar also had a big night, winning both Song and Record of the Year for “Not Like Us,” marking the second hip-hop song to win in this category, following Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.”
The Weeknd surprised everyone with a performance of his songs “Cry For Me” and “Timeless” alongside Playboi Carti. This marked a return to the Grammys after he had criticized the organization in 2020, reflecting the Academy’s push for more diversity. Chappell Roan was named Best New Artist and called for reforms in the music industry, including fair wages and healthcare for emerging artists.
Beyoncé and Chappell Roan added a country flair to the event, with Taylor Swift presenting Beyoncé with the Best Country Album award for Cowboy Carter. Roan also delivered a lively performance of “Pink Pony Club” from a giant pink horse. The ceremony opened with tributes to the people affected by the Los Angeles-area wildfires, including a $7 million donation from viewers for relief efforts.
The show featured many star performances, including a tribute to Quincy Jones by artists like Will Smith, Cynthia Erivo, and Stevie Wonder. Janelle Monae honored Michael Jackson with a cover of “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.” The Beatles' song “Now and Then” won Best Rock Performance, and Sabrina Carpenter took home Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n' Sweet. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars performed “California Dreamin’” before winning Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Die With A Smile.” Alicia Keys received the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.
Other first-time Grammy winners included Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Doechii, Charli XCX, Amy Allen, Carin León, Gojira, and Sierra Ferrell.
