Campaign Period for 2025 Philippines National Candidates Kicks Off

The campaign period for senatorial candidates and party list groups in the Philippines’ May 2025 elections officially began on Tuesday.

To mark the start of the campaign, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) launched Oplan Baklas, which aims to remove illegal campaign materials, such as oversized posters and those placed in prohibited areas like electric posts and bridges.

Comelec chairperson George Garcia mentioned on Unang Balita that this period offers an opportunity for voters to assess the character of the candidates by observing whether they comply with the regulations.

"As voters, it’s our responsibility to check. Right now, they are courting us. They say they love us, but let’s see if they follow the rules," Garcia stated. "Now is the perfect time to observe the character and attitude of those seeking our votes."
