Comelec Demands Explanation from Pasig Candidate Over Offensive Remarks About Single Mothers
Pasig City congressional candidate Ian Sia faces a show-cause order from the Comelec after making inappropriate remarks about single mothers during a campaign event. The DSWD has also criticized his comments, highlighting the need for respectful discourse regarding marginalized groups. Sia has apologized and must respond to the Comelec's order within three days.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a show-cause order to Pasig City congressional candidate Ian Sia, demanding an explanation for his lewd remarks about single mothers during a recent campaign event.
During the event, Sia reportedly suggested that single mothers experiencing loneliness could "sleep with him," inviting interested individuals to sign up at a designated table.
The Comelec's Task Force Safe cited potential violations of Resolution No. 11116, which prohibits discrimination against marginalized groups, including women. Violations could lead to charges resulting in imprisonment, disqualification from public office, and loss of voting rights.
In response to the backlash, Sia apologized, stating that his joke was intended to capture the audience's attention during lengthy speeches. He acknowledged that his remarks were offensive and expressed sincere regret.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also condemned Sia's comments, emphasizing that marginalized groups like single parents should not be the subject of inappropriate jokes. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian stated, "Using our vulnerable, poor, and marginalized sectors as the butt of jokes is not the way to go."
Sia has been given three days to respond to the Comelec's order.
