Rodrigo Roa Duterte

A report estimates that YouTubers posting pro-Duterte disinformation and attacks related to his ICC arrest can earn up to ₱20,000 daily from monetized content.

Following Duterte’s arrest on March 11, over 1,600 YouTube channels shared 3,000+ videos about the former president, many containing false claims and attacks on the ICC, President Marcos Jr., and the media. Around 900 channels met YouTube's monetization requirements, making them eligible to profit from their content.

Using data from Social Blade’s YouTube Money Calculator, The Nerve analyzed the top 32 disinformation-spreading channels, which promoted fake quotes, misleading narratives, and accusations that Duterte’s arrest was illegal or a "kidnapping".

YouTube monetization allows creators with at least 1,000 subscribers and sufficient watch hours to earn through ads, memberships, and YouTube Premium revenue. Beyond ads, these YouTubers may also profit from brand deals, sponsorships, and merchandise sales.
