Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte Arrested and Detained by ICC in The Hague

MANILA, Philippines — Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been arrested following a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection with his crimes against humanity case. He is currently being held at the ICC Detention Centre in Scheveningen, The Hague.

Duterte was taken into custody after landing at Rotterdam The Hague Airport on a chartered flight on Wednesday at approximately 11:55 p.m. (Philippine time).

The former president boarded a Gulfstream G550 aircraft with the tail number RP-C5219 from Villamor Air Base at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. During the journey, the aircraft made a refuelling stop in Dubai, where it faced a seven-hour delay due to airspace clearance issues.

Duterte’s arrest took place at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) upon his return from Hong Kong, where he had traveled with his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, to meet overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

The Malacañang Palace has confirmed the ICC’s issuance of the arrest warrant, marking a significant development in the ongoing case. Following his arrest, Duterte was temporarily held at Villamor Air Base until his flight to the Netherlands was arranged.
