Globe Unlocks Faster Internet by Piloting 50GPON Technology

Globe's 50GPON (50 Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology was successfully piloted. This technology provides faster and more dependable connectivity for continuous online experiences, faster downloads, and seamless streaming. 

The Globe Valero Telepark in Makati City hosted the pilot test, which demonstrated how 50GPON technology can transmit data at high to 50 Gbps. With this innovation, Globe's goal of offering multi-gigabit internet speeds is supported and a new benchmark for broadband connectivity is set. 

50GPON technology surpasses the capabilities of the existing 10GPON technology by providing increased efficiency, reduced latency, and the ability to accommodate the various needs of both residential and commercial customers. 

In addition to real-world applications including 8K video streaming, cloud gaming, augmented and virtual reality, fiber-to-the-room solutions, and high-definition video conferencing, the pilot included comprehensive testing, including throughput, end-to-end latency, and jitter. 

James Lim, vice president for broadband service planning and engineering at Globe Telecom, stated, "Globe is dedicated to giving Filipinos the best possible internet experience, and this breakthrough in 50GPON technology is a key component of our future-forward approach to broadband connectivity."

It is anticipated that 50GPON technology would revolutionize customers' digital experiences by making real-time cloud gaming, 8K streaming, and improved smart home solutions possible. Additionally, it creates prospects for e-learning, innovative manufacturing, telemedicine, smart cities, and secure enterprise connectivity. 

As it gets ready for future deployment, Globe is identifying early users and possible locations for the technology.
