Imee Marcos says she has not discussed Duterte’s arrest with President Marcos.

Senator Imee Marcos stated on Thursday that she has not yet spoken with her brother, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., regarding the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

During a Senate inquiry, Imee questioned government officials on the legal basis and procedures surrounding Duterte’s arrest. She expressed dissatisfaction with the responses, arguing that due process was not followed.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla defended the arrest, asserting that while the ICC lacks jurisdiction over the Philippines, the country adhered to International Humanitarian Law. He cited Republic Act 9851, which aligns the Philippines with global laws against crimes against humanity.

Imee also raised concerns over Interpol’s use of a "diffusion" instead of a formal Red Notice, questioning its legitimacy. Meanwhile, President Marcos previously stated that the arrest was carried out due to Interpol’s request, despite his earlier stance against ICC jurisdiction.

Duterte remains in ICC custody in The Hague, facing charges of crimes against humanity related to his drug war. Official records report at least 6,200 deaths in police operations, though human rights groups estimate the actual number could be as high as 30,000.
