Kianna Dy Makes Triumphant Return as PLDT Edges Cignal in PVL Thriller

MANILA, Philippines – After more than two years away from competitive play, Kianna Dy finally made her much-anticipated comeback, helping PLDT High Speed Hitters secure a hard-fought victory over Cignal HD Spikers in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at PhilSports Arena.

PLDT clinched the four-set win (25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22), overcoming a fierce Cignal rally in the final stretch. Dy, who had been sidelined since July 2023 due to a knee injury, was reintroduced late in the fourth set as PLDT held a 16-7 lead. However, Cignal quickly took advantage of PLDT’s lineup changes, launching a 5-1 run led by Vanie Gandler, Jackie Acuña, and Roselyn Doria, trimming the deficit to 20-17.

Cignal continued to mount a comeback, with Ishie Lalongisip delivering back-to-back points before Doria’s service ace brought the HD Spikers within two points, 21-19. Another ace from Lalongisip narrowed the gap to just one point, 22-21, igniting hopes for a possible Cignal upset.

But Majoy Baron and Savi Davison had other plans. Baron’s crucial block and Davison’s timely attacks steadied PLDT, and it was Davison’s game-winning spike at 24-21 that ultimately secured the victory.

Davison Delivers with a Triple-Double Performance

Leading PLDT’s charge was Savi Davison, who registered a stellar triple-double with 24 points, 12 digs, and 10 receptions. Erika Santos added 15 points, while Baron chipped in 10, making key defensive stops when it mattered most.

On the other side, Vanie Gandler spearheaded Cignal’s offense with 22 points, followed by Jackie Acuña (14 points) and Ishie Lalongisip (12 points).

PLDT Improves to 5-3, Cignal Drops to 5-2

The victory lifts PLDT to a 5-3 record, strengthening its position in the race for the PVL semifinals, while Cignal falls to 5-2 after suffering only its second defeat of the conference.

Kianna Dy’s Return: A Sign of More to Come?

While Dy played limited minutes, her return marks an important step in her recovery and reintegration into PLDT’s system. Her experience and leadership will be vital as the High Speed Hitters push for a deep playoff run in the PVL.

Fans can now look forward to Dy’s full return to form in the upcoming matches, as PLDT aims to solidify its standing against the league’s top contenders.
