MSI and Asus Raise Prices on RTX 5080 and 5090 GPUs, Blaming Tariffs and Low Supply
MSI and Asus have quietly increased prices on Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5080 and 5090 graphics cards, with some models seeing hikes of up to $300.
On Wednesday, GPU buyers noticed MSI’s online store reflecting higher prices, despite the company having no RTX 5000 GPUs in stock. Archived listings reveal the following price jumps:
RTX 5090 Models
- RTX 5090 32G Gaming Trio OC: $2,349 → $2,639
- RTX 5090 32G Suprim Liquid SOC: $2,499 → $2,789
- RTX 5090 32G Vanguard SOC Launch Edition: $2,379 → $2,689
- RTX 5090 32G Ventus 3X OC: $2,199 → $2,579
- RTX 5090 32G Ventus 3X: $1,999 → $2,379
RTX 5080 Models
- RTX 5080 16G Ventus 3X: $999 → $1,139
- RTX 5080 16G Ventus 3X OC: $1,139 → $1,299
- RTX 5080 16G Ventus 3X OC Plus: $1,139 → $1,269
The price increases extend to Newegg, where some MSI GPU listings are up by an additional $40 to $60. Asus GPUs are also seeing steep markups. For example, the Asus OG Astral OC RTX 5090 surged from $2,799 to $3,079, while the Asus PRIME RTX 5080 16GB jumped from $999 to $1,264.99—despite both being out of stock.
While neither MSI, Asus, Nvidia, nor Newegg have commented on the situation, speculation points to rising tariffs as a major factor. The 10% tariff on Chinese imports recently imposed by former President Trump, along with planned tariffs on foreign-made chips, including those from Taiwan, could further drive up GPU prices.
