New Batman and Game of Thrones games could be in development

Rocksteady Studios, the acclaimed developer behind the Batman: Arkham series, is reportedly returning to the Batman franchise for its next project after the disappointing performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Meanwhile, WB Games Montreal is said to be working on a pitch for a new Game of Thrones game.

According to a Bloomberg report, Rocksteady is planning a single-player Batman game, though it is still “years away.” The studio, best known for Arkham Asylum (2009), Arkham City (2011), and Arkham Knight (2015), shifted toward a live-service model with Suicide Squad, which failed to attract a large audience and resulted in significant losses for Warner Bros.

WB Games Montreal, the studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, had previously attempted to develop a live-service Batman game without Bruce Wayne. After the mixed reception of Gotham Knights, they considered a revamped version but were directed toward other projects instead. The studio also pitched a Constantine game and later attempted a project based on The Flash, which was scrapped following the underwhelming box office performance of the 2023 Flash movie.

Currently, WB Games Montreal is assisting Monolith Productions with its upcoming Wonder Woman game while developing a pitch for a Game of Thrones title. Details remain scarce, but the project is in its earliest stages.

Warner Bros. Discovery has emphasized focusing on major franchises, with a Hogwarts Legacy sequel also in development at Avalanche Software. Despite recent struggles, WB Games leadership remains optimistic about future profitability, though they acknowledge it may take a few years to fully recover.
