The PlayStation Network is now fully operational after experiencing a lengthy outage that began on Friday night.
PlayStation confirmed the issue had been resolved and apologized for the inconvenience but did not reveal the cause of the disruption. The outage impacted online multiplayer games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto, and also prevented some players from verifying licenses for offline single-player games.
Reports from DownDetector indicated that the problem started just before midnight on Friday. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), PlayStation announced: "Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the community’s patience."
As compensation, all PlayStation Plus members will receive five additional days of service.
The downtime triggered widespread frustration among gamers, with many voicing complaints on social media. Jeff Thigpen, a player from Dallas, USA, expressed his disappointment, saying that paying for a service only to be unable to access purchased games is extremely frustrating.
Gaming industry analyst Connor Clarke noted that the timing was particularly unfortunate, as it coincided with major events like the Monster Hunter Wilds beta and a double XP weekend in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. The outage, he said, likely left thousands of players worldwide frustrated over missed opportunities to participate.
