Pope Francis Health Update: Hospitalization and Recovery Progress

Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Friday, Feb. 14, for medical tests and treatment related to bronchitis, according to the Vatican. On Tuesday, doctors diagnosed him with double pneumonia, but by Wednesday and Thursday, he had shown “slight improvement,” the Vatican reported. However, officials confirmed that he will likely be unable to lead the Sunday Angelus prayer this weekend.

Despite some progress, Pope Francis remains in a critical condition due to his age and fragile health, his medical team told journalists on Friday.

Vatican Updates on Pope Francis' Health Condition

During a Vatican press conference at Gemelli Hospital, Dr. Sergio Alfieri, head of the hospital’s medical team, and Dr. Luigi Carbone, the pope’s referring doctor at the Vatican, emphasized that the 88-year-old pontiff must stay in the hospital for "enhanced" treatment.

Hospital Stay and Expected Recovery

“The length of his stay will depend on when he is well enough to safely return to Santa Marta, his Vatican residence,” Alfieri told journalists on Friday. “He will remain here for at least the coming week. He is improving, but his condition could still change. At Gemelli, he is a very cooperative patient.”

Prayers and Support for Pope Francis

As Pope Francis continues his recovery, Vatican officials and medical professionals remain hopeful while closely monitoring his health. The Catholic community worldwide is encouraged to keep the Holy Father in their thoughts and prayers during this critical time.
