Pope Francis set to be discharged from the hospital.
Pope Francis to be discharged from Gemelli Hospital on March 23 after recovering from double pneumonia. He will greet the public before returning to Vatican City for rest and therapy.

Pope Francis will be discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on March 23, 2025, after being hospitalized for weeks due to a respiratory tract infection and double pneumonia.
His doctor, Sergio Alfieri, confirmed that the 88-year-old pontiff is now in stable condition but will need at least two months of rest and continued medication.
Despite facing two life-threatening episodes, Pope Francis remained active during his hospital stay, reviewing sainthood candidates and completing other Church duties.
Upon his discharge, the Pope will greet the public from the hospital balcony before returning to his Casa Santa Marta residence in Vatican City. However, he is expected to limit physically demanding activities as he undergoes respiratory and physical therapy.
Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández noted that while Pope Francis is recovering well, high-flow oxygen therapy has affected his ability to speak, requiring rehabilitation.
