Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has warned fake news peddlers operating abroad that they could face legal action under cybercrime laws.

In an interview, Remulla stated that when fake news crosses into cybercrime, it becomes legally actionable, and authorities may soon be able to pursue offenders even beyond Philippine borders. He emphasized that disinformation and fake news can destabilize society and urged citizens to be responsible in spreading truthful information.

Meanwhile, Congress is conducting legislative inquiries to address the growing issue of fake news, while the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is working to identify those funding disinformation campaigns on social media.
