US Spy Accusations Shock China Embassy in PH

MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines expressed strong concern after a United States Embassy staff member declined to have a photo of his passport taken during a traffic stop, allegedly fearing it would be shared with “Chinese spies.”

According to the Department of Transportation’s Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr SAICT), the US personnel’s vehicle was intercepted on the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) busway last Friday.

“We have taken note of the reports regarding this incident and are deeply shocked by the unfounded accusations linking China to espionage,” the Chinese Embassy stated on Saturday.

The Embassy also emphasized its interest in the final outcome of the Philippine law enforcement agency’s investigation into the matter.
