LTO to Assist Cargo Trucks Delivering Rice Amid National Shortage

MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has instructed its executives to assist in the smooth delivery of rice across the country, particularly in areas experiencing shortages or price increases. LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, announced on Wednesday that personnel would be deployed to escort cargo trucks transporting rice, ensuring the unhampered delivery of this vital staple.

In coordination with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and other government agencies, LTO will facilitate the safe and efficient transport of rice from its source to various destinations. Mendoza emphasized the importance of cooperation among agencies to address the current rice supply issues.

The DA, led by Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., recently declared a national food emergency to address the rice shortage and unusual price hikes. Mendoza assured that resources and manpower would be mobilized to support this declaration, prioritizing the welfare of Filipino citizens amid the ongoing crisis.
