OpenAI Launches New AI Tool for Research Tasks

OpenAI has launched a new AI tool called Deep Research, designed to handle complex, multi-step research tasks on the internet. Powered by an optimized version of the upcoming o3 model, the tool can browse the web, analyze data, and synthesize information from various sources, including text, images, and PDFs, to generate detailed reports.
According to OpenAI, Deep Research significantly speeds up research, accomplishing in minutes what would take humans hours. However, the tool is still in its early stages and may struggle with differentiating authoritative sources from unreliable information. Additionally, it may not always accurately convey uncertainty in its findings.
The tool is available starting Sunday on the web version of ChatGPT, with plans to roll it out to mobile and desktop apps by February. This marks OpenAI’s second AI agent release this year, following the introduction of Operator in January, a tool designed to assist with everyday tasks like to-do lists and trip planning.
