Record-Breaking: Over 11 Million Ballots Printed as Daily Output Surpasses Expectations

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that over 11 million official ballots for the May 2025 midterm elections have been printed. As of yesterday, the total stands at 11,780,626 ballots, which is 16.34% of the required 72,107,420 ballots, leaving 60,326,794 still to be printed.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia reported that the daily printing rate has reached approximately 1.8 million ballots, surpassing the agency's target of 1.5 million. “I hope we can ramp this up to two million,” he said.

However, while printing has exceeded expectations, Garcia noted that the verification process—both machine and manual—has been lagging. Of the eight million ballots printed, only two to three million have completed verification. “That’s low. Verification needs to catch up,” he emphasized.

To accelerate this process, Comelec is considering hiring an additional 300 personnel. Garcia remains optimistic that the commission will meet its goal of finishing both the printing and verification of ballots by April 14, based on the current trend.
