On Monday, OpenAI is expected to reveal its rival to Google Search, according to sources

The announcement might be made on May 14, US time, right before Google's annual I/O conference.

According to two people familiar with the situation, OpenAI intends to unveil its AI-powered search tool on Monday, upping the ante in its rivalry with search giant Google.

The announcement date has not been released previously, however it is open to change. According to reports from Bloomberg and the Information, Microsoft-backed OpenAI is developing a search engine that may potentially take on Alphabet's Google as well as well-funded AI search company Perplexity. OpenAI opted not to respond.

The news may have been released one day ahead of Google's annual I/O conference, which begins on Tuesday and is anticipated to feature a number of AI-related product announcements from the tech giant.

Bloomberg reports that OpenAI's search engine is a complement to its well-known ChatGPT product, enabling ChatGPT to get content from the Web that is straight and annotated. Using the company's cutting-edge AI models, OpenAI's chatbot product, ChatGPT, produces responses to text cues that mimic those of a human.

Industry watchers have long referred to ChatGPT as a substitute for obtaining Internet data, despite the fact that it has had difficulty delivering precise and current Web data. For those who paid for access, OpenAI had already connected it with Microsoft Bing. Google, on the other hand, has demonstrated generative AI capabilities for its own engine that shares the same name.

A former OpenAI researcher established the $1 billion startup Perplexity, which has garnered popularity by offering an AI-native search experience that displays citations in results and pictures in addition to text in its responses. Ten million people use it each month, as per a blog post the startup published in January.

Following its late 2022 introduction, OpenAI's ChatGPT product was dubbed the fastest program to ever exceed 100 million monthly active users at the time. However, according to analytics firm Similarweb, global traffic to ChatGPT's website has been volatile over the past year and is only now reaching its May 2023 peak. As a result, the AI company is facing pressure to grow its user base.
