A high school student was rescued from a sex trafficking operation in Taguig following an entrapment operation by Taguig police on March 26.
The operation took place at a vape shop around 10:20 p.m., leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old suspect, identified only as alias Gilbert, a resident of Barangay Calzada Tipas, Taguig. He was charged with violating Republic Act 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003).
How the Rescue Happened
The operation was initiated after the victim’s sister found online messages detailing a transaction involving the minor in sexual activities. She reported it to barangay officials, who then referred the case to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) on March 20.
The WCPD organized an entrapment operation, during which the suspect attempted to trade the minor for a vape and a wristwatch. A 19-year-old male witness was introduced to a woman and led into a room where the suspect and the victim were waiting.
As the suspect instructed the witness to remove his clothes, police operatives and city social workers intervened, rescuing the victim and arresting the suspect on the spot.
Legal Actions & Authorities’ Response
A case for violating the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act will be filed against the suspect.
Brig. Gen. Manuel Abrugena, director of the Southern Police District, emphasized that authorities remain committed to protecting vulnerable individuals and seeking justice for victims of exploitation.
