The First ‘Minecraft’ Movie Trailer Has Arrived, and It’s Terrifying.

Warner Bros. has dropped the first trailer for the Minecraft movie, featuring big names like Jack Black and Jason Momoa. However, the one-minute teaser for this adaptation of one of the most iconic games is...absolutely terrifying in nearly every possible way.

I expected the Minecraft movie to stay true to the game’s style, but instead, we get bizarre CGI cubes that don’t resemble the game at all. And it’s not just actors voicing Minecraft-inspired characters—it’s just... regular people. Jack Black appears like he filmed a TikTok video without bothering to shave or get a haircut, just looking like, well, Jack Black. But somehow, he’s Steve. At least Jason Momoa went all in, looking ridiculous in that wig.

I get that I’m probably not the intended audience for this, and this movie doesn’t need to be a critical hit to rake in a billion dollars at the box office, which I’m sure it will. But I believe there are ways to do popular kids' games justice with live action, like Five Nights at Freddy's, or ways to stick to a specific style, like the LEGO movie

It’s a real letdown because there have been so many great gaming movies aimed at younger audiences, from Sonic to Mario. But if this movie turns out as bad as the trailer suggests, it’s going to break that winning streak
