Genshin impact lacks in representation said by fans

Genshin Impact, a widely popular RPG gacha game, takes players on an adventure through various regions, each inspired by real-world cultures. However, the recent addition of the Natlan region has left many fans feeling disappointed, particularly regarding the portrayal of the characters. Natlan is said to be inspired by indigenous cultures from Pre-Columbian Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania, and is characterized by its hot climate. Fans were surprised to see the characters depicted as noticeably pale, which they felt was unrealistic given the region's environment and cultural influences. This issue has sparked widespread criticism not only from Western fans but also from Chinese players, with many commenting that the characters look overly pale and resemble Korean features rather than reflecting the diverse cultures they are meant to represent. While some fans understand that the game is developed by a Chinese company, where pale skin is often considered the standard, the community still feels let down. Despite this understanding, many are devastated that the update didn’t meet their expectations, with several players going so far as to call Natlan the worst region in the game.
